“Lover” Series (ongoing)
I’m walking down an aisle in an antique store when I see her--a light pink porcelain cherub figurine on the top shelf of a glass display case. Viewed from below, her parted lips, flushed cheeks, and thousand-yard stare suggest a deep-seated desire for sexual promiscuity. Her chariot is pulled by two swans whose eyes roll back into their heads as though they, too, are having an orgasm. Did my grandmother see this in the faces of the mass-produced cherubs she collected? I must have her. On my way back to the studio, I fantasize about the colors, textures, and lighting I will use to put my chubby angel in her heaven. Playful and subversive, my “Lover” series celebrates sexuality, ecstasy, and pleasure using the female gaze.
